On one hand we have Madhavcharya (Mithun Chakraborty), the simple hearted priest of the village temple - and on the other hand his younger brother Gopal (Mithun Chakraborty again, in double role), who challenges the very existence of GOD!

God himself pronounces. "Might be Gopal is right! Might be I am only an imagination of the devotees and exist in their minds only!!" Chowdhary Rudra Narayan (Amrish Puri), the village 'Sarpanch' is not bothered with these trivial controversies - he only uses the priest and the God's name to swindle money from the God fearing villagers! But lately his schemes are getting foiled by Gopal, who is becoming a bigger and bigger menace every day-

Rajni (Juhi Chawla), who has returned after doing her medicine from the city, scolds Gopal for his hefty manners and 'goondaism' - and in return, Gopal starts loving her - Rajni falls in love with Gopal too! That is quite a blow to Chowdhary, who had a scheme to get his son married to Rajni for her huge ancestral properties-

So Chowdhary manages to do a theft in the temple stealing the Lord's ornaments for the idol and burying them in Gopal's courtyard - So to malign Gopal before the whole village and send him to jail to serve a long sentence-

The cirucmstances make Pujari take a vow before the Lord, that if God himself doesn't come to tell the truth to the whole village, Puraji will die in the Lord's feet by breaking his head on the stone.

Now, can such a miracle realty take place? Can Lord himself appear before all the people?

"PARMAATMA" will be the answer to these queries !
